Crew Compartment – Wood Stove

Within the Crew Compartment there is a wood stove. I suspect that the wood stove may have even been in the car when it was a Colonist Car, as the date appears to be October 1925. The stove is from Findley Brothers in Carlton Place. Currently the stove bolts are rusted into place, and there is no way to get the stove out of the car short of cutting it up. However, this is not the plan. I will sand it down and refinish it will black paint. There is no plan to ever light the stove again.

The stove is largely complete except for one small door and some burner plates. I suspect I can find both parts if I look hard enough.

The current plan is to restore the stove in 2014. I want to get it done before I finish too much of the walls in the passenger compartment as the grinding of the stove will create dust that I don’t want on my finished walls.

What follows are some pictures as I found the stove. This first one is an overview of the front. One can see the two missing burner covers. Also, the stove is now sitting on a dolly so that I can more easily move it around the car. Eventually it will be back in the Crew Compartment.

A view of the front with the oven door down. Once can see the missing door on the upper left. I will have to try and locate one.

A view of the left side. Nothing exciting, but one can see that the legs are fragile and will need some work.

A view of the left side. I assume that this wood hold the wood or coal. I have found a coal bin in the car, but I am still not sure if it belongs to this stove, and if it does, how it was mounted. None of the holes line up L.

This project has not been started, so there is nothing more to show. As I progress on restoring it, I will update this page.
